Puccini’s Madame Butterfly-which incidentally opened the company in 1957-will follow, with performances running June 30 through August 24.
Leading the cast are Alek Shrader in the title role joining him are Brenda Rae as Cunegonde, Kevin Burdette as Pangloss, Helene Schneiderman as Old Lady, Jarrett Ott as Maximilian, and Richard Troxell as Governor/Vanderdendur. The opera is part of the centennial celebration #BernsteinAt100, which will bring works from the composer around the world over two years. Santa Fe Opera will kick off its 2018 season June 29 with a new production of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide.
